Multiplayer questions

Hi,

I heard of your game today and since I am a huge fan of Dreamcast and Micro Machines I am definitely going to buy this (and even if it is only to support projects like this one). Now I've got a few questions concerning the multiplayer modes (I only take out my dreamcast when it comes to multiplayer games):

- Are there any AI-opponents in multiplayer?
- Is there a championship-like mode in multiplayer?

Last question concerning the code: This isn't a open-source game, is it?

Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany,

David

Hi David,

Thank you for your support!

To answer your questions:
- There are no AI opponents in the multiplayer modes.

- Whether or not the multiplayer modes can be interpreted as such, depends on your definition of a "championship mode". Yes, you can play all tracks in succession and the game will keep track of the total score. But no, there is no tree structure with semi-finals and finals, if that's what you mean.

- No, this is not an open source game.

Hi,

thx for your answer. I had a closer look at the game's features and watched some videos on youtube. I just ordered a copy and can't wait for it to arrive.

But I was quite sad to read, that there are no AI-opponents in the multiplayer mode and that there's no 'real' championship mode available neither in single nor in multiplayer. The problem with a 'normal vs-mode' (especially for two players) is that it is boring if you don't have a friend who's as good (or as bad) as you. With AI-opponents you get this 'We together against them'-feeling which is extremely fun and in my eyes the reason why for instance Mario Kart or Micro Machines are considered to be great multiplayer games. You compete together against the others and so when you get 1st and 2nd you're both happy 'cause you won against the computer. See what I mean?

A championship mode could have looked like this:
The championship consists of a series of let's say 5 races. The first reaching the finish line in a race gets 10 points, the second 6, the third 4 and the fourth 1 point. At the end of the 5 races you add all the points you gained for each race and the one with the most points wins the Championship. Now a multiplayer-Championship mode with AI-opponents would have made this game a must-have kickass multiplayer game!

But don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely thrilled to see a game of this quality for Dreamcast. It looks incredible, the sound's great and I'm definitely going to play this game until I know every track by heart. I'm just very sad about that because I don't think it would have been a great deal to do it (or am I wrong?) and apparently you guys don't seem to think of a sequel (Or am I wrong?).

Keep up the good work, Age of the beast looks very good too. I would love to see Bomberman-like or a turn-based strategy game as Heroes of Might and Magic next.

Greetings,

David

As it happens, that's actually very similar to what the multiplayer modes look like, save for the AI opponents.

Well, it already took a lot of time to make the game as feature-rich as it is. But no matter how many features are in, it's always possible to think of more. So although your logic seems sound, if we kept thinking that way the project would never have been finished. Nevertheless, we appreciate your input!
