Testers needed for BOR/OpenBOR Character Editor

30 Jun 2006 21:37
First off, sorry for posting this here, BORRev, OpenBOR.net and BORGen. I have a bad internet connection and can't contact many modders on MSN

Ok. The editor is now in its final stages. Right now I need to test it on multiple platforms before I start posting it on Senileteam.com / Openbor.net / BORRev.

Can people please download a copy here and let me know what makes it crash (please tell me which text file from which mod or what button you pressed) or any suggestions and changes. Even if it crashes straight away, let me know as I am anxious to fix any bugs in the editor.

I have now added bbox selection by mouse and add and removal of animations and frames. All options should now work with the following exceptions.

- Save
- Zoom
- Move commands in animations (they work but they don't show in editor)

Please guys can I have some feedback cause its very hard to develop without it.

Remember your data folder should be called DATA (upper or lower case or mixed, but nothing else) and you need models.txt too.Ok. The editor is now in its final stages. Right now I need to test it on multiple platforms before I start posting it on Senileteam.com / Openbor.net / BORRev.

Wow! Great Editor you made there!.
Good job.

EDIT: I found that after I opened 1-2 characters, everytime I opened another .txt file It showed up a "Picture Viewer" window with a random code in it (jumpframe 0,blast 0, etc..).

After testing what jeroen said, It shows a "Runtime Error '53' File not Found '/Unused'"

If I press 'view' without loading a frame for that function first, the program crashes.

Jeroen. Thanks for the feedback, looks like I missed some error checking code.

Guile. You need to have VB Runtime files, I included one with the program but it looks like I need another for those who don't have it already installed.

DemoKK. The picture window should pop up with every character. What it does is show each line of text that is being processed, then it clears itself and closes at the end. Its so that if an error crashes the program then it will show the last line of text.

If the window does not disapper then thats bad, but if you only see it for a few seconds, that is normal.

SenileTeam.com seems to be the best place to post these days, I got 1 reply at the most on BORGen and OpenBOR.net

You should be able to google for it, but here is a copy anyway.

http://www.borgeneration.com/kirby2k/MSCOMCTL.ZIP

If not, try this page:

http://www.angelfire.com/biz/rhaminisys/vboledll.html#DownloadControls

You may need to register it:

MSCOMCTL.OCX
This is an ActiveX component used by most software. This control is present in most Windows Operating Systems, and this error indicates that it either needs to be updated, is corrupted, or missing. After downloading follow these instructions.

1. For Windows 95/98/ME copy the file "MSCOMCTL.OCX" into your \Windows\System folder. For Windows NT/2000/XP copy the file "MSCOMCTL.OCX" into your \Windows\System32 folder.
2. click on START button in the Task bar
3. click on Run...
4. Type in the Textbox: Regsvr32.exe MSCOMCTL.OCX
5. Click OK
The library file or active X component is now installed and registered in your Windows system

Hi guys.

It looks like its pretty much ready now. The editor now saves and loads and seems to work great.

Obviously I'd still like to add more to it, but let me know about any bugs that need fixing first.

*edit* Updated with new bugfix version.

Well, that link is over four years old, so I don't think we should be surprised it's not working.

Every editor and tool for Beats of Rage can be obtained from Lavalit, but that site does require registration. Registration doesn't always work, though, as seen here.

You can get it from LavaLit like Roel said, but be warned that this tool is very outdated.  If you're using a recent OpenBOR version (which you should), this program can destroy characters IIRC.

However there are 2 newer character editors available from LavaLit that should work fine.  One is called "OpenBorStats" and the other is called "obeditor".  If you register at LavaLit, search the forums for those names and you should have no trouble finding them.

EDIT: I just realized that the most recent posts in this thread are almost a month old.  Oops.

No shame in bumping an old topic in my humble opinion.
