Intrepid Izzy is an adventure with platformer and beat 'em up elements. In this game, you eplore large, colourful levels to find various treasures, upgrades and collectibles. Most notable amongst these are the costumes that don't just change how Izzy looks, but also which special powers she can use. For example, the vampire costume allows Izzy to temporarily change into a bat and pass through small openings.
The game features a nifty map system which automatically indicates important objects such as treasure chests, doors and objectives. Unlike typical metroid style games, the map actually shows the level in detail, and not just a grid.
Throughout the game, Izzy collects coins, which can be spent in town on inventory items, or on the arcade mini games. These have actually sparked a whole new game of their own, called Izzy's Arcade. |
Senile Team is an independent game developer, who achieved instant fame in 2003 with the surprise hit Beats of Rage. This moddable, open source engine was ported to dozens of platforms and sparked the revival of the beat 'em up genre with over 100 community-developed mods.
Beats of Rage was followed the 2D racing game Rush Rush Rally Racing, the adventure platformer Intrepid Izzy, and the falling block puzzle game HypnoTiles. Intrepid Izzy was voted all-time "best indie Dreamcast game" by community vote in 2024.
