Yesterday was an exciting day. It was Rush Rush Rally Racing test day!

Although the test machine was a PC, it was connected to a television screen and fitted with Dreamcast controllers to make the experience as genuine as possible. With that setup and a roomful of players, we were able to collect a lot of useful data about many aspects of the game. The reactions were very positive, particularly about the gameplay and the soundtrack. The physics were said to feel impressively natural, and Ben (Senile Team's composer) was called a genius.

Of course some flaws were also found, but fortunately there were no serious bugs and we should be able to work our way through the test results relatively swiftly.

*cue surfboy accent: It was awesome dude!

Somebody had taken along his MAME-cabinet, but nobody seemed interested in this admittedly incredible piece of nerdism. Everybody wanted to keep playing R4! Great game, addictive!

Kudos to Senile Team. Looking forward to the finished article!

Nice, finally it reached testing phase!

BTW was that the only testing day? or there's another testing day?

Great. Age of the Beast please.

...

Haha I kid man. Looks great. I'm interested in seeing the physics for myself. That's a major problem I've had with most 2D racing games, all the cars drive like they're on ice.

I don't expect to organise this big a test session again for this game. Most results were pretty straightforward and don't need to be extensively tested again. We do want to examine the difficulty curve a little more, but that could be done on a smaller scale.

We'll make sure you'll be able to watch a video before buying.

First of all, Congratulations- it sounds like an engrossing experience playing Rush Rush Rally Racing!
Secondly I hate to ask (somebody has to), but how long (approximately) do you see the tweaking and finalizing taking (not holding to any due date of course)?

It's hard to tell at this time. I've fixed about 10% of the issues we found just today, but those were mostly the easy ones.

About 6 hours, I guess.

Oh nice, can't wait for the video. I realize cars can't make 200-MPH hairpin turns really easily, but when I see my nice new Porsche or whatever in game just slide off the track into the dirt at speeds where my busted up Taurus would been just fine... well needless to say that about kills the game for me.

Im glad to see everything progressing well. I can't wait to get my hands on another indy release after Wind and Water has wetted my appetite. Good luck with the rest of the production stage. lozz.

I have a few questions for ya Roel?

Is the possibility for this to be comercially released still in Dec 2008?

What kind of Marketing/Packaging are you going to produce the game in? So, the look and feel of the games inlay and style, NTSC-U or NTSC-J Dreamcast look?

Thanks

Sorry, but I don't think so. Although the game is almost completely finished now, there are still some steps to take before the files on my hard drive have become Dreamcast discs in online stores' supply rooms. Too bad, because a christmas release would've been awesome.

The Japanese packaging style is my personal favourite, but the final choice will probably depend on the publisher.

Hi, any chance after the DC release for this to be ported to other platforms? Iphone/Touch, Wii, Xbox, Pandora?

Thanks

Sure there's a chance. The more the merrier, I always say. But if more ports are to be made, they'll have to wait until after the Dreamcast version. Also, I don't think iPhone and Pandora are likely candidates.

Hi, thanks for the answer, i love overhead racing games no longer have my DC, but i would certainly pick it up if it were available for Wii/Xbox.

Sorry forgot to mention even with the Pandora having a PowerVR SGX GPU - same family as the DC's GPU - and a decent CPU - surely make it possible and maybe easier to port across?

I know the Pandora is powerful enough, and I think it's a very cool machine, too. However: A I don't have one, nor do I know anyone who does, B last time I checked they were sold out, C it still has to prove itself as a gaming platform (in terms of userbase) and D Rush Rush Rally Racing is especially fun on a machine with 4 controllers (which is really not the same thing as netplay). Please note that I'm not against a Pandora port, it's just that there is other hardware out there which seems more suitable.

I'm looking forward for this game. It would be nice if a demo is released before the full game, so we can test the playability. This could also be somewhat a beta testing.

I think that counts for any multiplayer game. True, netplay is good for getting games against people when you can't have people round, but there's nothing more fun than having a group of friends in the same place playing the same game and having a good laugh about it.
